On page 75 of “Dancer in the Distraction Factory” by Goodwin, the author mentions  the concept of double address which he says :”is commonplace in pop songs” (page: 75). Also, he states: “When a pop singer tells a first-person narrative in a song, he or she is simultaneously both the character in the song and the storyteller” (p:75).

This concept is related to the R&B singer Alicia Keys song’s named “Superwoman”. In this song, Miss Keys is using the double address because she is using the personal pronoun “I” where she is reffering to herself (character). Also, she is the one telling the story (storyteller) about the superwoman.

We can see it in her lyrics…..

1-Even when I’m a mess, I still put on a vest, With an S on my chest, Oh yes, I’m a Superwoman (character)

2- For all the mothers fighting, For better days to come, And all my women, all my women sitting here trying To come home before the sun (storyteller)

“Superwoman” by Alicia Keys is showing the concept of “double address”
